Developer Update #5: Dies of Fire and Water

Posted on August 01, 2025 by DrPyspy

Howdy hey! Welcome to another Tomb Fetus devlog! We're going to be taking a closer look at a couple weapons and go on a trip to the pool! I had a list of puns related to fire and water to pad out the end of the first paragraph, but this extra sentence explaining their absence fills the same space. WAHOO!

Fire & Spice

Handle with caution.

Do you like setting things on fire? Terrible question; of course you do. To satiate this urge, you can seek out the Flammenwerfer! The flames from this marvel of engineering travel relatively slowly compared to other projectiles, and don't reach very far before they dissipate. Once you close the distance, you can see it's true power: a barrage of rapid fiery damage that whittles opponents down faster than you can come up with something quick to say!

Toasty!

These flames come with a free parting gift: AFTERBURN! The longer you concentrate your flames on a target, the longer their suffering will be! Be warned: their suffering can be lessened through health pickups or pools of water, so don't let your foes get the chance to cool off.
Legal notice: suffering is restricted to a maximum length of ten seconds.

I'm taking off!

Of course, it's pretty hard to hit someone who is far away. Double your troubles if they've got the high ground. All is lost, right? WRONG. Simply take a look at your feet and let those flames fly! Literally! It can also come in handy if you have a grudge against stairs and other vertical transportation. Don't forget to steer yourself!

Setting out the welcome mat!

If you don't feel like flying, and you're confident in your prediction, you'll find solace in the alt-fire! Simply unlock the nozzle and shoot your hot sticky goo! This spicy substance will bounce off walls and come to rest once it hits the floor, turning into a hazard that inflicts afterburn upon those foolish (or brave?) enough to tread through it. Don't get lost in the sauce; these splats harm both enemies and yourself!

Soak 'em If You Got 'em

Hose 'em down!

Do you like setting things on water? Terrible question; water. To water, you can seek out the Duper Soaker! Water!

Wash this drive.

The pressurized streams from this water-type hose shoot out fast, and they push enemies around with great force if you land your shots consistently. Imagine landing in a pool from an 80 mile drop (roughly the height of a big tree or dog), then mix it up and imagine that pool landing on you. Yowch! These watery streams can inflict more than pain, though; you can instantly extinguish afterburn with 'em! It works on yourself, friends, and even enemies! Everyone loves water! Shout-outs to water.

This was on accident and my game stuttered during the recording but it looked pretty badass so here it is

Do you like setting things on balloon? Balloon question. To balloon, you can use the Duper Soaker's alt-fire! A quick tap of the alt-fire will spit out a fairly weak itty-bitty balloon, but give yourself the time to hold it down, and you'll greatly increase the power and size of your balloon buddy! Release your hold at any time to send your balloon out to war. Take note that enemies can see your balloon and how large it is, and they will judge you by your size.

Poolishness, Dante

Whew! All this talk of pools has made me talk about pools! Let's take a quick vacay over at Pool Day!

This is the closest a mid-westerner will ever get to a beach!

Pool Day is based on the original fy_pool_day by the mapper Squall, and adapted for Tomb Fetus shenanigans by mappers Mack-O and Skerion! One of the main attractions of this poolish endeavor is, of course, the POOL! Use the diving board to have a brief, whimsical dive into the pool! Swim about the depths to grab a Duper Soaker and ensure that nobody in the building misses out on a chance to witness the world-famous concept of water.

Hey buddy, I think you got the wrong door.

The pool is flanked by a pair of color-coded locker rooms, stocked up with the usual items: lockers, showers, and weapons! The pool facility would like to remind all Tomblets that showering is mandatory for all, even for those who happen to be food.

I'm sure he'll be fine.

Need a break from all the liquids? Try some vapors! Waltz over to the sauna for a steaming good time and a chance to grab the Haste powerup! Take caution; your enemies can lock and activate the sauna while you're in it. Can you take the heat?

That's all for this devlog! Time to get out of the pool and dry yourself off. Right now. Progress is moving at a steady pace, and it shows no signs of stopping... unless I get hit by an automobile of some sort. Until we convene yet again, in the NEXT DEVLOG...
