Developer Update #11: A Massive Grain in My Ice

Posted on July 23, 2026 by DrPyspy

Welcome back to DEV UPDATES! First off, a big thanks to everyone who has been enjoying Tomb Fetus so far! I've been mostly quiet on account of many life shenanigans, but do know that I have been watching quietly from my epic flying throne of power. The feedback has been great, and the matches have been really fun!

Now, onto the update of developmental happenings! We're gonna be talking about some upcoming stuff for the next Tomb Fetus update! The January update is slightly off-schedule... but there's some great stuff coming with it for players and modders (!!!) alike! Without further ado, let's dive into a map-centric episode of DEV UPDATES!

The Pressure's On

A cool new map! Seriously though, it's freezing. Bring a jacket.

Welcome to Ice Cube Zone! On the outside, this may seem like your usual uninhabitable blizzard-y pile of rocks. However, deep beneath the surface (about 12 steps in) lies a sophisticated high-tech base of unknown purpose! It was probably intended to be a secret, but the Tomb Fetus Federation is a proud practitioner of SQUATTER'S RIGHTS! This map accommodates a much larger player count, with tons of interconnecting caves and a healthy count of pickups!

Nature's wonders!

Precariously coating the caverns of this cryogenic construction are colossal crystals of curious coloration! The ones in this picture are pink, but there are others that are a... bluish purple color? It's more of a blue, but it's kind of purple, too? You get what I mean, right? Our science and wellness team have officially declared these as safe to touch, but NOT safe to eat. If you're hungry, please wait until after the conclusion of the match.

Be careful around the teleporter stations! Remember what happened on Voyager?

A big arena means room for lots of Tomblet shenanigans! The tanks make their second appearance in this map, there's caverns with vertically varied layouts, and there's lots of room to experiment with advanced movement tech! It can be a bit intimidating to traverse... but luckily, two long-range teleporters have been included! Tomblets can quickly jump from one end of the map to the other, allowing them to ambush unsuspecting players or get a head start on valuable pickups! Take caution; you can be ambushed coming out the other end, so be careful!

No Plain, No Grain

If fragging is sure to result in victory, then you must FRAG!

No more snow! Out here in the middle of flat-ass nowhere is the Grand Derri Granary! Whatever you can imagine happening to grain, it happens here. This map is based on the map Granary from Team Fortress 2, focusing on the central area and receiving a handful of changes to accommodate the fast-paced arena action of Tomb Fetus!

Your chances of being jumpscared by Deibu at a teleporter are low, but never zero.

Much like Ice Cube Zone, Grand Derri Granary dips its toes into the realm of teleporters, offering another option to evade or ambush your opponents. However, the real magic happens in the center of the map; it's an open area rivaling the size of Parley's dock area, containing a complex arrangement of vertical vantage points. It's a highly contested space on its own, but this area also contains TWO (two!) Friend-Bryo spawns, leading to frequent FRIEND CLASHES that can add an extra level of chaos to any battles in the center. Don't lose your cool!

This next update marks the beginning of support for MAP ADDONS! Servers will be able to easily load and distribute custom maps. Once loaded, these maps will be accessible from the Lobby's map voting screen! This is only the first step in wider addon support, but it's a large one! I'm excited to see what people come up with!

Please note that addon support is considered to be a work-in-progress, so there may be a bunch of kinks to iron out when the update releases. Any addon content besides maps is not officially supported yet, so if you're feeling adventurous and want to experiment with non-map addons, you'll be on your own in volatile territory. That hasn't stopped anyone before, though!

That's all for now, but this next update reaches beyond the realm of maps! Stay tuned for information regarding behind-the-scenes code reworks, cosmetic shenanigans, and... A NEW WEAPON ALT-FIRE!?!? Wat! O_o WTF??? FTW!!!! O.O z0mg....
